For Gandhi, chanting the mantra of Rama Nama was equal to creating Ram Rajya
At a prayer meeting in New Delhi on 25 May, 1946, Mahatma Gandhi said: “To install Rama Nama in the heart requires infinite patience. It might even take ages. But the effort is worthwhile. Rama Nama cannot come from the heart unless one has cultivated the virtues of truth, honesty and purity within and without.”
It is from Gandhi that we also learnt the true meaning of, "Dil Me Ram, Hath Me Kam.” Gandhi also always stated that only when we utter the name of God or Ram throughout our life, that we will be able to remember God at the time of death. And this what Gandhi himself did when the three bullets ripped through his heart. He uttered, “Hey Ram” during the very last moment of his life.
