Lord Shiva's Looks

The Meditative Pose
Lord Shiva has three eyes; hence, He is called Tri-ambaka deva. The third eye is on His forehead. It is the eye of knowledge-or the eye that opens when He is angry. When Lord Shiva gets mad, it is only to destroy our wickedness.

He wears snakes as His ornaments, representing a mind that is totally under His control. From His jata(hair) comes out Ganges, the river of knowledge. There is a Crescent Moon on His forehead, representing His mind shining with luster. He has a Damaru and a Trident. The trident represents that He is beyond the three gunas - sattva..rajas..tamas (purity…passion…inertia).

Look at Lord Shiva's dress:
Make-up…ashes…jewels..snakes..deer skin. All these represent a simple life, the result- total concentration. When the mind is wandering all over, one cannot really concentrate or study. Lord Shiva represents the universal Teacher, Sri Dakshinamurti, who blesses the world with knowledge.

GAME: CONCENTRATION:
"Concentration, synchronization…these are the numbers we say." The first person says a number, say, "5." The second says, "Concentration, synchronization, these are the numbers we say: 5…9."
This way all the players will keep on adding a number and keep on repeating all the numbers starting from 5…9, continuing in a circle. The one who can't remember drops out from the circle. The one who remembers them all is the winner.
